Many thanks John . I did get a little annoyed again as the judges were also in the competition, but it appears they didn't get far this year

This is true, but they are allowed to enter just like everyone else. However; over here in IPMS, anyone who enters a particular category CANNOT judge that same category where he has entries. This is why I never have judged 1/72 scale armor in any contest.
Paul, you have a highly respectable haul of gong, your work is most masterful.

Just added our specialist Ship Builder, Karih, to the list. Well done Kari, those are definitely two to be very proud of

A highly commended at a local show today, tough competition with some very dubious judging but I was happy with this looking at what I was up against

Thanks fellas. Yes some excellent models that only got commended and was far better than mine. One fella had been told it was because he didn’t have enough weathering on the underside of his plane so they was picking models up. Another got a bronze that was outstanding and he got told it his figure that stopped it being awarded anything better

That’s ridiculous, so the modeller would have done better if he didn’t include a figure! Also, when it comes to looking underneath, the judge could have caused damage. Sorry, you would have won, but the undercarriage was broken. (Note to self, put six inch nail through fuselage so judge can’t pick it up.) It makes you wonder how good some of these people are when it comes to modelling their selves! A few years ago, we had a judge at our club’s yearly competition. He was an author of several aircraft books. He also brought a model that he had made with him. It was the old 1/48th Airfix Buccaneer in Gulf War colours. I’m sure most of you know, it wasn’t the best of kits to make. But this was outstanding! It gave you confidence knowing this man knows what he’s talking about. Funny enough, I did win one class that night. He announced it as I was paying for a few books I just bought from him

PorcoRosso, I like looking at competition entries but I don’t have a great deal of faith in the judging process. Once you get past the glaring errors (admittedly that didn’t stop one of the judges picking up a gong every year at one show) then it starts becoming really subjective to what’s a good model. We all have our own biases when it comes to what we do, or don’t, like. As for looking under a tank, that’s me buggered as I don’t even paint it as you can’t see it. I wonder if they also took the turret off just to check?
