I did see an article about using Klear as a satin or matt coat as well........simply by adding a drop of tap water in a ratio (can`t remember what they were now).....i believe 50/50 gave a satin finish for example.

I’ve found that with the amount I apply it’s kinda satin anyway. The problem with that it’s doesn’t play with using oils paints for weathering as they tend to ‘slide’ about.

Some more progress. Klear coat on and added some dark brown pinwashes to bring out the details and also serve as some weathering. Nxt up the decals, obviously not a lot but the recognition star is a multi-part affair which looks fiddly but not that hard (I could be setting myself up for a fall here) and there’s even a small section that you paint by hand. The part I’m not happy with is the colour of the canvas mantle. I thought I followed the paint mix but it feels too dark from both the box art and pictures I’ve seen. The caveat with that is the colour ones are obviously restored so who knows where they got the colour from. Saying that I think I’m going to go with Khaki Drab instead.

Well there was another part of my thinking that said when they made them it would be who cares as long as it’s green!

Decals on (the recognition star wasn’t actually that bad but probably a bit more softener later), new improved colour for canvas mantel. Oh and I realised I’d put the drivers hatch on back to front. A bit botched if you look closely but it will do. Next up, let everything dry and a coat of Matt varnish.

On the positive side, when faffing about with the driver’s hatch I did notice two small holes next to the MG and thought, oh that’s what that part left on sprue is meant for!

I love the way the colour darkens with a shinny coat on

I love the way the colour darkens with a shinny coat on One thing I did realise early(ish) on when I got back into modelling is always go for a lighter shade than you want to end up with.

Not great with the Matt varnish. So Humbrol rattle can and there’s some powdery effects appeared on certain areas. Nothing too bad and once I get all the weathering done (some of it will be good for weathering) it should all blend in but I did decide to give a base coat of the base colour to the barrel. Onwards annd upwards etc.
The positive though, I was worried that as this was a mojo build any little set backs would have me fuming. Nothing like it fortunately!

I've found Vallejo mat varnish is great stuff,50/50 with there thinner and it's a lovely mat coat, found this after years of trying other stuff, now I've got three bottles of it, no going back for me

VMS and Vallejo for me, both work excellently . Jase when you try the rattle can again, warm it up a tad before hand. What you need is a water bath about the same temperature you would use for a baby. Stand the can in it for 5 -10mins, shake then spray

Vallejo Matt for me That does look really nice and much better with the mantlet cover make over I always start light and work darker.....it takes a lot less paint to darken a lighter colour than it does trying to lighten a darker one
