Hope you feel better, Robbo! Yes, there are some messy respiratory ailments going around here in the Colonies, too. Especially with kids.

Right time to get Peggy moving again.
I need a bit of clear rod as she is going to be my first aircraft in flight, I'll show you why at the end of the build.
I've been looking on line and it seems I can get 2mm diameter clear rod easily but will this be strong enough to hold her 10cm off the ground? straight up not at and angle

Even though this a 1/72 kit, I think 2mm rod will be a tad on the weak side. I would get 3mm for this, that should be stable enough for the weight.

I thought it would be a bit weak to but I've never used this stuff so I don't know how strong it is

Not my area of expertise Robbo as i very rarely build anything that flies............unless i get the hump with it and it gets launched!!

I did an in flight take on a Beaufighter a few years ago. I drilled a hole in the fuselage and added the 5mm rod to the aircraft. The problem isn't so much the rods strength, it is brittle compared to any styrene.

I agree, 2mm is probably too thin. It's surprising how much even a small model can exert pressure and cause a post to flex. I have done two in-flight projects; the Tamiya Buffalo and the Roden RC-135 and they both required a fairly robust post to support them.

It's ok I had a chat with Andy Cleasens on how he does his as they are nearly all in flight models he does

What size did you end up getting,Robbo.

I was advised for a 1/48 I would need 5mm so for this one I got 3mm. It's not going to be at an angle, it will be straight up so shouldn't bend

Disaster just struck, I was sanding an exhaust as it was a bit tight and it snapped in half and half hit every wall in my model room before disappearing in to the word of lost parts
I have contacted a friend at the club who has done no end of 1/72 spitfires to see if he has a spare, I've kept the half in case I have to make a half

I contacted two people and I'm sure one will come up trumps Anyway moving on I spent a good hour at the bench and Peggy is very nearly finished building. Just letting bits dry before I can finish thing like the wheel well covers, if that is what they are called, they really are holding on with a wish and a lot of glue, it'll clean up. I had a big gap on the underside that was easier to fill with a shim of plasticard, quite pleased how that looks now
