Well, it's time to get another fast-mover going in the construction department. I am going to build my fave jet of all time, the F-14. I am going to use the Hasegawa F-14A which still holds it's own as a good F-14 kit. I will be using the True Details resin F-14A cockpit set as well. I recently obtained the Furball Decals F-14A sheet which contains decals to do all the Sukhoi and MIG killers from the '81 and '89 Gulf of Sidra dogfights with the Libyans. My plan (tentatively) is do one of the VF-41 "Black Aces" jets from the '81 shootdown against the Sukhois. Stay tuned! Regards, Ian

One of my all time favourite films since I was a kid was Top Gun (first time I saw people french kissing, yuk ) and the F14 is a cool plane which remains in my heart. Looking forward to see this one being built

I started work on the front office of the Hasegawa F-14A this week. I plan to depict the plane as "Gypsy 207" from VF-32 "Swordsmen" off the USS John F. Kennedy. This plane was one of two which got a kill in the second Gulf of Sidra showdown with the Libyans in the winter of '89 as a show of force following Pan Am 103 and various other indiscretions by the Libyans. The superb Furball Decal sheet will be used which contains all the decals for the F-14s from the '81 and '89 incidents. Interestingly enough, "Gypsy 207" was rebuilt as an F-14D and retired from VF-31 "Tomcatters" as "Bandwagon 105" after OIF and is presently in the Udvar Hazy Museum at Dulles. I am using the True Details F-14A resin set which is perfect for an F-14A from the 80's. Also, the resin is beautifully cast and, although made for the Monogram F-14A kit, fits perfectly in the Hasegawa offering. The tub was painted with Model Master Enamel Dark Gull Gray which functions as a primer in addition to being the standard Navy cockpit color. I also worked on the True Details resin GRU-7 seats. Once again, they are beautifully cast in resin and they look awesome once they get a wash and dry-brushing. So far, I have the cushions and seat frame done but will work on the extensive belts, etc. this weekend with washes and stuff to follow. Stay tuned. Regards, Ian

Thanks for stopping by, Robbo. I have heard good things about the HobbyBoss -14 and it is one of the finer jets in their 48th jet line. Eduard used it as their core kit for their F-14 reboxing with Eduard goodies.

Ian

With the Jagdpanther off the assembly line, it is time to move over to the aircraft assembly line. I started back working on "Gypsy 207", (BuAer# 159610) which was one of the '89 VF-32 Gulf of Sidra MIG-23 killers off the USS John F. Kennedy and was flown by Cmdr. Joesph Connelly and Cmdr. Leo Enwright during the engagement. "207" had the early grill style gun vent and that is provided in the Hasegawa kit so I installed that and got that blended with the rest of the nose. I also installed the upper fuselage vents. I worked on the True Details cockpit some and got the pilot's dashboard installed. Although made for the Monogram kit, the True Details set is almost a drop fit in the Hasegawa -14 and does not require Dewalt Power tools to install, unlike the Black Box sets from many moons ago. Stay tuned...... Best wishes, Ian
