Thanks for the kind words, gents!. I did the paint work on the vertical stabs which entailed spraying the area of FS 35237 Medium Grey over the Dark Ghost Grey. I masked the stabs off with 2090 tape and then sprayed the Medium Grey and posted shaded that since photos showed heavy fading. Next will be the panel line work. I figured I would throw in a little bit of Tomcat history here, as well. Back in 2006 myself and a fellow modeler from my chapter got invited to the Tomcat Sunset F-14 retirement ceremony at NAS Oceana, by decal designer and Navy jet expert Brian Marbrey. We were each asked to build 1/48th scale F-14's to present at the ceremony. In return, we were presented with plaques bearing parts of F-14's that had been recently scrapped following retirement along with a data blank which had the BuAer number of the Tomcat from which the parts came from. The plaques were presented by USN Captain Dana "Smudge" Potts, a very distinguished F-14 pilot. The plaque I received commemorated F-14B BuAer# 161859. This particular Tomcat began it's life as an F-14A and served with the "Red Rippers" of VF-11 and the "Tophatters" of VF-14. It was then rebuilt into an F-14B and was assigned to the "Grim Reapers" of VF-101 where it finished out it's career. Unfortunately she was not destined for AMARC or a museum and was broken up. Nonetheless, I was fortunate enough to be given a piece of the plane which is now on my F-14 display wall. Regards, Ian
