I have a minor update on the Tomcat. I have been drawing in the panel lines on the undersides and I will be adding washes next, along with the grime. I also added the bare metal leading edges to the wings and I used Vallejo Aluminum for that. Stuff laid down like glass, as always. I then painted the afterburner cans using Metalizer Burnt Iron for the face of the cans and Acryl Jet Exhaust for the back half. Interesting note on the A-model F-14's; when sitting on the ground one TF-30 afterburner will be closed and the other will be fully opened so I used one of each from the kit to make the model correct. Stay tuned......... Best wishes, Ian

Thanks, guys!! Hasegawa's panel lines are pretty well defined so they take a 0.5 lead pencil really well.

I worked on the Tomcat wings some more and drew in all the panel lines using both a lead pencil and a .005 Micron Ink Pen. I also dotted the rivets with the pen and streaked the ink beak to simulate leaks. I also applied a heavy Burnt Umber/Mineral Spirits wash to the hinges and actuators as well since those get grimy. I just have to finish the underside of one of the wings and these will be done. Stay tuned... Best wishes, Ian

Boots, they are the greatest thing since microwaveable pizza. Great for access panels that leak because you just have to use a Q-Tip/swab on the ink to make some streaks.
Best wishes,
Ian

I got some work done on the F-14 and I finished up the panel lines and washes down in the "Hell Hole", the area between the left and right and intakes. As noted before, this area was believed to have been FS36375, Light Ghost Grey, which had not been painted over yet at the time of the dogfight. I post shaded this area with FS36495, Light Grey, which was pale enough to show up over the Light Ghost Grey. I added alot of fluid leaks and stains to the underside as well and also added a heavy wash to the grills and chaff buckets. I got the shoulder pylons and drop tanks painted and post shaded as well and these were also believed to have been in FS36375 Light Ghost Grey and not over-painted with Dark Ghost Grey as part of the VF-32 adjustment to the paint scheme. I just have some more paint touch-ups to do and I will be moving on to the wheel wells. Regards, Ian
