Thanks, Paul!! We will have the tank hunter Abteilungs covered. Your Panther hybrid is Abteilung 653 and my Jagdpanther is Abteilung 654.
Best wishes,

No worries, Steve, and thanks for dropping in. Yeah, this will be in the overall yellow scheme so the Zimmerit and washes should show really well.

Ian

I did a little more work on the Jagdpanther. All the tiny parts on the engine deck are on and I finished the Zimmerit on the back of the casemate and added the stowage box there as welI. I also added the Zimmerit to the bow and filled two small punch marks on either side of the upper hull. I have started work on the stern plate and the exhausts so hopefully I will get that knocked out this weekend. Best wishes, Ian

So, I did some work on the Jagdpanther and I am about at the primer stage. I had to change gears a little bit because some of the Dragon information was not quite correct regarding the early Jagdpanther's configuration and reference information about the early ones was hard to come by. The one I am building will be "314" from 654 Schwere Panzerjager Abteilung in Normandy. This is the one depicted on the box art but that image may not be right. "314" had the tools on the side of the casemate moved to the rear deck, along with the gun rod tube. I moved all those items to the rear deck in the appropriate spots. Also, it appears there was no zimmerit under the tool racks on the casemate so I masked the areas around those spots and sanded off the Zimmerit and made some weld damage marks where the racks would have been. The sleeveless gun configuration will be correct as will the cast gun mount (no bolt heads). This particular Jagdpanther was apparently in tri-color but this may have been added once they got into the Normandy sector. Also, it evidently has black numbers, not red like on the box. However, this is really a nice fitting kit and there were no issues with the general construction stuff on it. I will be adding a figure so I bought the Miniart 1/35th German Tank Crew Set (Normandy) and they are really nice figures. So, the next step will be the primer and stay tuned. Best wishes, Ian

Thanks, Boots! Yeah, I didn't realize these early Jagdpanthers were pink elephants. Fortunately I ran across a photo of "314" after it had been blown up by those pesky Scots Guards with a PIAT round so that information helped.
Best wishes,
Ian
