I about have the Octo-Tiger II ready for some primer. I installed the headlight and added a power cable made from the wire from a sandwich bag twisty-tie. Since there will be cage armor on the hull-sides I plan to move all the pioneer tools to other parts of the tank so the crew can get at them. I assembled the tow cables as well and those will also be removed from the hull sides and I may attach them some other way to the vehicle; not sure on those yet. Regards, Ian

Thanks guys! Marco, this was about as much of a trouble-free build as you can get. Other than filling in a few spots for the "Final Version" mods, it just fell together.

Ian

Thanks, Marco! Well, the poll results are in from the Scotch-soaked masses for the camo choice on the Tiger II. The overwhelming pick was the version with an overall green gull with the turret painted in what will be a splinter version of the Octopus camo. The turret will be painted using the late war Olive Green and the much paler late war Dark Yellow. The plan is to depict a very battered Final Version Tiger II somewhere near the Polish/Russian border in 1946 during a counter offensive against the Red Army.

Ian

I started the paint work for the modified Octopus Scheme on the '46 Tiger II. I laid down some enamel primer on both the hull and turret and everything looked good except I missed a seam on the muzzle brake. I added some Tamiya putty to that and I will get that sanded down today. I then painted the hull since that will remain in one color for this project. The hull was painted with Vallejo Olive Green, RAL 6009, since one of the last paint orders that was being planned by the Germans at the end of the war indicated vehicles would leave the factory in an overall base coat of green and the camo, whatever that would be, would get slapped on later. The Vallejo laid down fine and the plan is to add a lot of weathering and post shading so this will be lightened up substantially. I found some beautifully rendered hypothetical Tigers on Pinterest so I have some great weathering ideas in mind. Best wishes, Ian

I did some post-shading this afternoon on the hull which is going to be in a highly weathered state. I used the original base coat (Vallejo RAL 6009), lightened with Vallejo Iraqi Sand, as the post-shading color. I taped off the area where the side skirts are so that will look like newer paint since the vehicle will be depicted with no side skirts, just the cage armor. Stay tuned. Best wishes, Ian
