Thank you, Robbo! I painted the turret, next, and I used MIG Acrylic late war German Dark Yellow. This was the first time I used MIG Acrylics and the paint laid down really well, once I figured out the right thinning ratio. My plan is to paint the 88mm barrel dark grey since those evidently left the ordnance factory in that color before installation in the tanks, late war. I also may do the mantlet in Red Oxide Primer, just as a color variation. Regards, Ian

Now looks very nice, for a dark yellow it looks very light or is that the light

It is a very pale yellow, however the work bench lamp did lighten it a lot.

Excellent colour contrast there, I think a grey barrel & red oxide mantlet will look awesome

Very nice Ian . You're absolutely right about the dark grey barrel, they only received this heat resistant covering at the ordnance factory. Later they were painted over, and sometimes not .

Thanks, Boots! I thought the Late War Olive Green and Pale Yellow would be a good choice for a "What-If" project. I am getting the Octo-Splinter Scheme sketched out now to see how I want to do it.

Ian

I did some more paint work on the '46 Tiger II since I had some downtime on the F-14. I decided to add some color to the hull so I painted the drop-in plate for the hatch area with Mission Models Red Oxide to make it look like a replacement piece had been added to the hull. I then started on the Octo-Camo on the turret and this ended up being alot more difficult then I had anticipated. I initially went with green circles hand painted over the beige areas but the MIG Green just did not hand-brush well and I did not like the results so I stripped it and started over. I then tried airbrushing large masked green spots and hand-painting the center with the MIG Yellow and once again the result was not great so it was stripped a second time. I found a cool Octopus camo alternative in the MIG Paint Scheme insert for the Amusing Hobby E-100 Tank Destroyer kit where brown Octopus spots are used instead of green, for the green based scheme. I used the Mission Models Red Oxide paint and hand-painted the circles and it brush painted perfectly. It laid down very smoothly but just ragged enough to make it look like the spots were painted on by the crew in the field. I removed the gun barrel and painted the mantlet with the Red Oxide and then I will paint the barrel with some Gunship Grey to depict it as freshly installed after arriving from the factory. I have to add some spots to the left side and that will wrap up the camo part of the project. Stay tuned....... Regards, Ian
