I continued work on the B-52 and added all the avionics additions to the spine, which were not provided in the kit. Three of the avionics blisters came from the spares box and were just sanded, reshaped and then cemented on. I also added the raised panels that have some type of vanes on them, just behind the front office. In addition, I finished out the tail and added the various avionics blisters there. I also added the tail gun cap but cut the gun off since that is not carried anymore. I started work on the flaps but they have really heavy punch marks (or craters) so I am getting them filled now. I had intended to add the wing pylons since I have some really nice ejector racks to put on them from a Dragon 1/144th A-6E kit but I noticed the wing pylons in the kit are only for the ordnance from D's and E's in the 60's and 70's incarnations of the BUFF. I don't think I can fabricate a correct looking modern pylon so I will probably leave those off. In all fairness to Minicraft, they do provide a disclaimer in the kit that says the underwing ordnance is not applicable for the H-model but provide you with stands and decals in the event you want to build all the early ordnance (Hound Dogs, Quail Decoys, Skybolts) as individual models and display them. Anyway, I will try to get the flaps sanded up this week. Model on!!!!! Ian

Thanks, Paul! No biggie on the the flaps, just have to do some of that modeling stuff. There is actually a raised plate where they attach that pylon so I actually just have to cut a piece of sheet stock and cover the slot rather than fill it. And I don't have any OEF era ordnance to put on it anyway so it all worked out.

Ian

Nice mods Ian, I think Iād be tempted to leave most of the small antenna off until the very end and then only add the most prominent.

Thanks, Steve and Sniper!! All the small blade antennas will be added at the end. I found a great schematic in an old World Air Power Journal that outlines the placement of all antenna and dielectric panels on the B-52. I will probably scribe out small trenches for the antenna and add them after the paint. No photo yet, but I did install the windscreen glass and it was a perfect fit. This was the last construction thing I was worried about on the aircraft.
Best wishes,
Ian

Don`t envy you in masking up the screen in 1/144th Ian ........ even masks will be a challenge

Don't worry, Boots, I have a plan!!! So I got the masks cut using Washi Tape. I actually cut them first, using the Mark One Eyeball as a reference and then placed them on the glass. Any open spots I had, I just filled with some pieces of Washi Tape I cut separately. I then primed the model using a coat of Enamel Light Ghost Gray. The primer really brought out the beautiful recessed panel lines this kit has and they are scaled perfectly for the model. I noted all the bad spots I have to work on so I filled those with Tamiya Grey Putty and I will get all those sanded out and then it will be time for some FS36118 Gunship Grey. Best wishes, Ian

Thanks guys! Yes, that killed off about 2/3rds of a bottle with the first coat. So Paul, is your 1/72 scale version parked in the garage?šššš

I worked on the BUFF today and applied the top coat. I used Vallejo Gunship Grey, FS36118, from their Modern USAF Paint Set and it sprayed on really well. This is probably the largest project I have used Vallejo paint on and I thought it went on very smoothly. I did note a couple of divots in the sanding work that I still have to work out so I applied some spots of Mr. Surfacer and I will get those sanded up and then apply some more Gunship Grey. There won't be much weathering on the finish since photos indicate the H's have very well maintained finishes. However, I some photos show some minor moisture spots on the grey where the paint is either darker or lighter. Best wishes, Ian
