Thanks guys!, Yes, I thought the red would be a nice accent over the Gunship Grey because the decals are just low-vis black (except the NYPD 9/11 nose art).
Regards,
Ian

I got the decals on the BUFF over the past two days and everything went well. I used the kit sheet which is actually printed by Cartograf and they are beautiful stickers. The walkways for the stabs and wings were kind of challenging but Cartograf printed each walkway as one piece with carrier film in between the lines which guarantees they will be straight. The downside is there is a chance of silvering due to all that clear deadspace. However, the Vallejo Gloss Varnish did the job and they laid down fine with no silvering. The walkways on the stabs caught my eye as well because the are asymmetrical on the real bird and Cartograf replicated this. The rest of the decals were fairly mundane, just being black stencils. However, this BUFF does feature the 9/11-NYPD nose art as this aircraft participated in the first OEF airstrikes into Afghanistan from Diego Garcia as part of the 93rd Bomb Squadron in October of 2001. I will let these cure up for a day or two and then it will be time for the flat coat. Best wishes, Ian

I began work on the rather extensive antenna array which B-52H's are known for. I saved this for last to avoid breaking them off during handling as they are so small. I got all the antennae installed on the undersides and these were all made out of sheet stock. I will work on the upper antenna next and this will finish off the construction. I have just a few spots to touch up on the paint and then it will be ready for flat coat. Best wishes, Ian

Thanks guys! I got the antenna list from an old World Airpower Journal which featured the BUFF. The amount of ECM packed in a B-52H is quite amazing. There are also a lot of panels built into the skin too.
Best wishes,
Ian

Another small update for the day as I worked on the various antennae on the spine. There are several more blade antennae as well as a rounded antenna back by the tail. Interestingly enough, the BUFF has two nav beacons on the spine so I used two red ones from the old Cutting Edge Beacon Lens set from way back when. Minicraft missed an intake vent on the front of the vertical stab so I took a new sanding stick and sanded a perfect rectangle into the leading edge and then painted that black which was a fair enough representation. Just a few touch ups and then it will be time to flat coat. Best wishes, Ian
