Chaps, time for a silly question . I have never used filters before, not home made or purchased ones. But, I now wish to add one to this vehicle. I need to know which colour shade and how to do it best, brush or airbrush, enamel or acrylic? And, before or after a gloss cover? Thanks up front for any help

I always use enamel/oil base filters as I find they flow better over a gloss surface. I've used bought ones and made my own using oil paints and thinner. Enamel paints also make a good filter. What you are looking for is a very thin almost tinted wash in effect that slightly changes and weathers the base colours of the model. For example a dusty filter made from say a buff or light grey colour will fade the paint and also gather in recesses and around details.
As for what shade to use on the lanchester it depends on you really. A bit of practice on something will help. Brushes are the weapon of choice too for application. Also if it looks too heavy its easy to remove with thinners and a clean brush. I also tend to build up the effect over a few layers and here you can also change the colours as you wish.

Same as Pete from me mucker.......i do put them thru the AB as well as brush , just be patient `tween layers tho. My fav is Grey for bright white when doing a Winter White , i do confess to using some pre made AK ones simply because i like `em...........but i do make my own as well , thats a good video and ive had it saved in my bookmarks , this is the kind of thing i mentioned to Joe the other night....You Tube has some good stuff on it at times

Pete, Boots, cheers fellas . Nice video info there to, but I reckon I shall just stick to my own filter/washing mix. That seems to work for for, and I hate trying new things out that then go wrong . Anyway, I got the officers uniform done today . All sprayed with Vallejo mixed colours and then down-lights ( that's a new one) with AK OIF/OEF streaking effects. After that he got a very subtle dry-brush with Humbrol 84 enamel . The head is still in progress, might get a quick shot of that later . I'm a little annoyed as I managed to snap his cigarette off , so I'll have to replace that somehow.

Pete, Ian, cheers fellas. Ian, I did curse a little as that happened, a replacement shouldn't be too tricky though

Been back at the Lanchester today. I added the wheels, and she has been dirtied up a bit too . I also added, what maybe a little free artistic licence, some headlight covers to the headlights . The lights are the week point in the kit, there's no lenses in there, I didn't have anything around to substitute that. Also I have no idea when headlight covers were used for the first time, so I have taken the liberty and added them to the Lanchester anyway. I have also started on a very simple base for the vehicle, but more on that later . Hopefully more tomorrow, which might include the finished figure .

Looking all rather splendid old boy. The figure looks excellent. Your photos look so much better quality than mine. Maybe I need to use my camera instead of my iPad. Any pointers would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks Joe . As for the camera thing, I have a Coolpix L810 from Nikon. It not a bad camera, but it doesn't like having week batteries. When it finally packs up, I shall go for another Coolpix for certain.

Looks most excellent Paul, like the mud buildup and the subtle streaking on the hull sides. The headlight covers are a good idea, it's a shame CSM didn't include any lenses for the lights. I had to punch out some flat discs myself.

The light covers look convincing enough to me Paul, who’s to say that this field modification never happened? Figure looks rather dapper too
