Gentlemen, after what seems an absolute age,I am finally going to try and post some WIP shots of a project I'm doing in tribute to a cousin of my Dad,and his crew. My dads cousin was a gent by the name of Wifred James Baulk. He was Flight Sergeant,at the time. (This was taken at the Air Museum in Elvington near York) He was a rear gunner on a Lancaster having been turned down initially for pilot training. He completed,I believe,14 missions with this same crew, except for the odd sick day amongst the crew. They were posted to RAF Scampton in October of 1944,as a crew, and Wilfred was taken off Ops in January 1945 to do Officer/Pilot training. He survived the War,and some of his personal effects are on display at the Museum, including his private pilots log. One thing I saw on display that intrigued me at the time, was a Stilletto dagger, with 6 names engraved on it.(More on that later) As some of you may have seen,I purchased the HKM 1/32 Lanc a little while back, and to build this tribute,I won't be using the full see through fuselage the kit comes with. I did however fork out for the Eduard coloured etch cockpit set,and the seat belts and pre cut masks. Also to be added, are some really nice brass .303 barrels to add to the gun turrets.

I am looking forward to this build and that is a great piece of history to go along with it. The Lancaster is truly an amazing aircraft and a great design.
Best wishes,
Ian

That flight deck looks amazing! Still can't imagine being 18-19 years old and taking that into the heart of the Reich in the dark.
Best wishes,
Ian

Bomber Command thought it more efficient to just have the pilot station in their heavies. Not sure about the Stirling, though. Have to look into that. Best wishes, Ian

Good evening gentlemen,as promised here are a few pics of the Lanc all joined together. These were taken outside on our maintenance free grass. The crew Wilfred flew with were:- Pilot Flying Officer Jack Rhodes Flight Engineer Sergeant Melvin Francis Kingdom Bomb Aimer Flying Officer Donnart George Webb Navigator Flying Officer Phillip Charles Henry Clarke Wireless Op Sergeant John Edward Livick Mid Upper Gunner Sergeant Terence James Bicknell Sadly,These chaps, and Wilfreds replacement in the rear turret, a Canadian Sergeant called Hugh Cuthbertson, all perished when returning from a raid over Mannheim on 1st March 1945. As for the Stilletto I mentioned earlier?...It has the names of Wilfreds 6 crew members engraved on it. Apparently it was aircrews way of honouring their fallen comrades.

Thanks for posting the crew information as it's always great knowing about the flesh and blood in these machines. It's also great that the 1/32 scale Lancaster has to be displayed in a yard to be photographed. I really want this kit. Best wishes, Ian

Sorry chaps, but I'll be putting this on hold for a while,as the main reason I was building this with these markings is no longer with us. My Father passed away over the weekend. I will get back to it,I promise, but the wind has gone out of my sails somewhat!
