I build my models in units, or sub-assemblies. I start off by removing the parts from the runner in their relevant sub-assemblies. I then put them together in a self sealing bag, and mark the contents on the bag with a Sharpie pen. Then, when the time comes to glue, or paint the parts, they are a lot easier to locate. If the model has a large parts count, I find it particularly easy to find the part, or sub-assembly I'm looking for. As they would say on Blue Peter, here's a couple I prepared early.

That is an interesting idea. I might have to adopt and adapt that technique for my small scale stuff.
