Nice in a spot of primer, tools and ropes will certainly jazz up the rather plain hull for sure Just got to see if I can find a couple of those weird Russian end connectors that I’ve never quite worked out the purpose of.

Where there’s a bit of an ooopppps ... fitting the turret I noticed that the gun mantel was fouling on the hull MG turret. After a bit of looking at the box art issue solved. I’d put the whole gun mantel/housing on upside down. A scalpel and Stanley knife latter and all removed with minimal damage. A bit of clean-up and some filler and we should be back on track.

Ouch . Sounds like you have it sorted though Personally I put all of the blame on Trumpeter for not keying the locating tabs. Well that’s my excuse anyway!

All put back together and cleaned-up to mostly hide my little mistake. Just a coat of flat brown which has turned out lighter than I thought it would but heh, I’ll live with it and it should darken down after weathering. Now where’s that magic putty and Tamiya flexible masking take.

Thanks chaps and I’ll get it marked up tonight but paint will have to wait until tomorrow as magic putty isn’t the sort of thing you leave on a model overnight.

Yeah, I hear bad things happen if it gets left on there.

Yeah, I hear bad things happen if it gets left on there. It’s just that it ‘flows’ even if very slowly so if you leave it too long it will flatten on horizontal surfaces and literally flow down vertical ones. It’s something to be aware of but it does have advantages when masking surfaces with lots of complex detail. Apply, leave for a bit and it ‘flows’ into all the nooks and crannies. I much prefer it to blu-tac as it far easier to shape, doesn’t leave any residue and best off all it can be re-used countless times - don’t ask me where the paint goes. Oh, and if you’re bored you can making bouncy balls out of it. Just don’t leave it on carpet as apparently you’ll never get it out.

Well after playing around with a few different methods for getting the masking right I’ve now assembled my toolkit.

Holy meat chopper batman . I hope that is cutting tape and chopping the model up if something goes wrong

Looks like some extreme form of masking going on there!

It took quite a bit of time to come up with something that I’m hoping will work. The masking ‘stripes’ need to be relatively thin and also a consistent size. So my latest plan, mark up some masking tape with spacers to show where to cut, roll out some magic putty into a sheet, cut the sheet into an oblong and then meat chopper time. The reason for that is the putty loves to stick to itself so cutting with a scalpel is a bit of a pain. Using the meat chopper you can make a wider cut and then use the whole blade to move the freshly cut stripe off to the side.
