So I based my choice on the fact that shelf space is really overrated and I am going with the Airfix 1/72 scale Nimrod. I think these are really cool looking aircraft and were very versatile during their career. I located some RAF Hemp paint at Scale Hobbyist and that is in transit for this beast. I am going to do either a Hemp-camo Nimrod from the Falklands or one from the 2003 Iraq War. Stay tuned........ Regards, Ian

Sweet! I have one of these in the stash as well. I'll be watching with great interest. If I can finish some of the other four multi-engined 1/72 scale aircraft I'm building then I'll happily start this one too.

Thanks guys! This will be like a square yard of shelf space just gone. This is one of those models where the wingspan and fuselage are about the same so it's a lose-lose situation on storage.š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£

Well, I started on the Nimrod and this is going to be large. The fuselage halves are nice and the model has really fine recessed panel lines. I brush painted the inside of the fuselage black so nothing will be visible through the fuselage windows. I kept the flight deck mostly out of box since you won't really be able to see much of it, although I added seat harnesses made of tape which were then painted black. Airfix called out the wrong color for the floor, as it should be kind of hull red/maroon rather than black. I used Vallejo Hull Red for the floor. I think the plan right now is to build the MR.2 version from the Falklands War where they were based out of Ascension Island. Those actually carried AIM-9 Sidewinders under the wings which I thought was pretty neat. Also, that version carries nose art with boobs in it. If the instrument panel is an indication, the decals in this kit are horrible so I am looking ahead to replacing the generic decals with whatever I can get from the spares box. I may do the bomb bay doors shut because Airfix, by their own admission, kept the bay simplistic as a cost-saving measure and I really am not up for a scratch-build in there, right now. Anyway, stay tuned! Best wishes, Ian

Sweet! I'm taking notes for when I do mine. I hope to add sidewinders to mine as well so I'll be watching closely to see how you do that.
