Great job on that paint job, it's easy to forget this thing had so many clean lines back in the day.

I was thinking that the green looked a bit ‘strange’ but it also occurred to me I know pretty much bugger all about US armour. That leads me nicely into my question, the rack of small ‘tubes’ on the gun barrel, what on earth are they?

They look very similar to the smoke dis-chargers

Being as Pete has seen this yet, I shall tell you what it is . It's what the Brits call Sim-fire, this is a simulation of the main gun being fired when on exercise . Adds a bit more fun to the war games

Adds a bit more fun to the war games Thanks Paul, never heard of that and having a quick google it seems to be like an version of Laser Quest for tanks with added effects.

Here's an Abrams from the 1985 exercise Trützige Sachsen which took place in September 1985 They were the red forces . Here's two pics showing the 17/21 Lancers leaving Münster, for the same exercise and actually driving to exercise area 130 miles away in northern Germany . We had only 2 Chieftains break down, not bad considering we had 52 Chieftains, 5 Chieftain ARV, 6 Scorpions and I can't remember how 432's, Ferrets, 434's, Spartans all on the road in one huge convoy. It's a shame I can't see the reg. numbers, as I was crewing one of these tanks at that time

Nice pics Paul, yes the reg numbers would be useful. Jase, the american version is called a hoffman device, basically it pops of a small explosive bang to simulate the main gun firing, or did back in the day.

That looks rather swish ole chap . I'm sure you'll recover the mojo again soon, it must be a lack of shows and the terrible bar events which have caused this

You've put a lot of effort into this build Pete, and it shows. Well done.

Cheers guys, Definitely the lack of shows to attend this year I think Paul as I've got no goals to aim for in completion of models. I guess I'll just potter on this year and enjoy a more relaxed schedule!

I guess I'll just potter on this year and enjoy a more relaxed schedule! No sweats really, I think almost all of us have these up and down times in the mojo department. We all do this hobby for personally enjoyment and if that’s not happening then, well time for a little refresher break.
