A couple of kits I rather enjoyed building but for some reason never finished. Time to get cracking, well tomorrow anyway.

I'm in, I like the Somua design. Will you add a camo to it ? Oh yes, I’m going to stick with the kit decals but I’ve found a colour scheme I like on Tanks Encyclopaedia. It also gives a me a chance to play around with the mixer function on iModelKit instead of just ordering a paint.

Nice mate, that somua is a cracker of a kit to build. It’s a great little kit and I can’t even remember why I stopped at this stage. One of the good things is I had a check to make sure I wasn’t missing any parts and fortunately the only pieces I can’t find are the stowage on the back and more annoyingly the commander figure. I presume they’ll turn up sometime.

The S35 is the normal quality you expect from Tamiya and the tracks are clickable and workable unlike the normal clickable and fall apart if you breath within six foot of them. They are a bit of a pain to put together though as the individual links are pretty small and need a bit of force to get them to click into place.
The SU-101, an interesting vehicle even if it never entered service but at least it existed.

Looking forward to the 101, I have that in the stash too If you’re looking for a quick painless build it certainly fits the bill. The only issue I had was the fuel tanks took a bit of fitting to work out how to get them lined up. I still don’t understand how you were supposed to fit them with the inside end handles in place.

Even better, the commander figure has turned up so I think I’ll take a bash at my first figure since probably 1988.

Right then, paint mixing to get the colours I wanted, lots of masking (some bits of leakage as the green was a bit thin), a coat of Klear and finally decals. I had some fun with them as one of the selections for the number plate doesn’t actually fit on the number plate and I discovered that when getting when of the turret numbers aligned I had managed to remove, and destroy, the other one. Fortunately there is another one that’s supposed to go on the outside of the turret hatch. As you can’t see that, well that became my spare. Oh, and started on the tracks but I’m going to finish the weathering of them in-place.

Thanks guys and I’m glad there’s no rivet counters about to point out that I took a few liberties with the colour scheme.
