It would be cheaper to send it to me. Not really but I gotta give it a shot. See what I did there? Scotch, shot............ Ha!!!!!!!!! Would you like the Scotch without the track part? Ian

Well, it's time to get back on the Sherman. Originally I had intended to build this as a South African Sherman II (M4A1 76) but those were equipped with the T54 steel chevron tracks. I had problems with the Modelkasten T54 tracks I had purchased for the project and I came to the conclusion I will need a jig to properly mount the track teeth. In the interest of moving the project forward (since I really love the M4A1 (76) I have switched gears and I am going to finish the vehicle as an M4A1 (76) from the famed Polish 1st Armoured Division because these vehicles were equipped with the T48 rubber chevron tracks. A DS set of these is provided with the Dragon kit so this simplified things. I joined them with MEK and painted them with Vallejo Track Primer and now they are on! I then did some post shading with Tamiya Smoke for the recessed areas and hatch lines and then sealed everything with a Pledge Floor Wax. It appears the Polish units did the 'ole Firefly-esque barrel camo on their 76's so this was depicted with Vallejo Winter White with a wave pattern of RAF Dark Green on top. Next step will be decals and then the best part----WEATHERING! I also plan to add copious amounts of spare track armor on it since it looks like the Polish tankers in Holland liked to add the extra links for protection. Anyway, UP THE IRONS! Best wishes, Ian

Me certainly likes the change of plan Ian . She looks mighty fine in her boots and fake 17pdr , that would certainly have a German or two .

Thank you sir. It's amazing how well that barrel camo works. I did a Polish Mk 1c Firefly that had the barrel camo on it and it's amazing how well that wave pattern works with creating the optical illusion of a short barrel. Probably some nasty surprises for the Panther crews.
Regards,
Ian

I made some more progress on the Sherman. Pin washes and chipping are complete so I moved on to attaching the spare track link armor on the hull. The pieces were painted with Vallejo Track Primer and then the bare metal areas were highlighted with Vallejo Steel. A Raw Sienna oil wash was applied to the weld joints for the track links as well. Heavy washes were then applied to the outer surfaces of the links to bring out the detail. Next stop will be the dust, pigments and stowage. Regards, Ian

Thanks everyone! Marco, yes......those Polish Shermans were really up-armoured with track links judging by the photos I have found. Pigments are going on now so I should have some update pics this weekend. Cheers!!!!
