In between waiting for various things to dry on the FV213b I thought I’d crack on with this one. My thoughts on the kit as a bit of a newbie to building wingy things. The thing that really impresses me is the seams or lack of them. Once I get it under primer I’m sure they’ll be a few bits to clean up but so far there’s only a few obvious, and small, places where I can see they need bit of attention. This has probably been helped by being a lot more careful with paint on surfaces (no primer this time) and also making use of Mr. Cement S (much the same as TET) instead of my normal goto, Roket Plastic Glue. The latter I really like but the things that are its advantages, not aggressive and slow drying time, really do play against it. So a really enjoyable build so far and the only tricky part is the engines. The cowlings are thee piece affairs and it takes a bit of patience to get them all lined up correctly. There’s the added problem problem that if you’re like me you might move bits around and then forget which bit is which. After doing one I found it a lot easier to attach the engine to the wing and then put the cowling around it. There are two options to choose from, an RAF rocket firing version used in Malaya or a New Zealand AF torpedo bomber. Who doesn’t like a torpedo?

Well then, well then - primer time for the main bit and all the little bits. I’m still trying to get used to getting all the parts painted in different colours before actually attaching them. The undercarriage was an interesting one as it’s a three piece affair and you really need it in place to get everything aligned. Hopefully I managed to get it right, or right enough. Oh and my idea of masking the canopy early to get it out of the way, that didn’t quite work out. So a question, for the clear parts representing lights what’s a good colour to paint the ‘background’ where it sits to give it the right look. I was think of silver + smoke?

Silver and smoke would work. I usually add just silver or even the interior colour. Depends on the aircraft.

Woo, quite like these, was looking at Revells 32 scale. I do like the look of it, especially the upturned tail, and there’s also that bit in the back of mind that takes me back to building Airfix kits when I was young.

Thanks all. I’m hoping to get the main colours down today now I’ve realised what colour the underside actually is. The instructions call out of Beige Green and I’ve only got something similar so mixing time it is. When doing a bit of a google for Tamiya mixes something dawned on me, the little bit on the painting guide - approx. Sky, well that means what it says. Humbrol don’t do Sky so they call out the next nearest thing in their range. Fortunately I have got some Tamiya Sky although why I ever bought it I don’t know.

Nice going fella, I want me a Firedog version of this, after all who doesn’t love a Pug That version does look rather cool but in end in the battle of torpedo vs. rockets the former was the winner.

This masking lark takes longer than I thought but pictures later.

And here are the pickies. I’ve tried to go for a slightly faded look with the paint work as it was part of Costal Command. Some bits to tidy up (curves in masking tape are hard I’ve found) but pleased so far. Next up a coat of Klear and loads of decals, probably close to forty, with lots of fiddly little ones. Note to self, apply them in sections and let set to avoid moving the ones you’ve already placed. Edit: It’s less patchy than it looks in the picture, flash and all that.

Thanks all and the masking has been a good learning experience as it’s not just one of those straight line from the wing root but instead curves. I might order another technical drawing template to go with the one I have used for wheel masks and see if that helps.

Oh and I did use the masking fluid for the small circular light of the wing edge as it's a larger clear part with just the light to be left unpainted. One thing I wish I'd done was put a small bit of foil in the recess to make it more reflective.

That looks fantastic! The kit looks like a very crisp build, too.
