I have decided to get another fast mover on deck since my other two projects are getting ready for the primer booth so I am going with the Hasegawa F-104S in Italian Air Force markings. This is probably one of the finest jet kits out there and absolutely falls together. I always thought the Italian birds looked cool with the four-tank configuration so I will be adding two resin CMK underwing drop tanks. (The Hasegawa box art is a little deceiving as they don't include the underwing tanks or parts). For decals I will be using the Eagle Strike F-104 sheet which features an Italian one in the overall grey scheme. I also have the Life Color Italian Air Force grey shade in the paint rack so it looks like I am all set.

I started work on the Italian -104 and pretty simple thus far. I painted the front office Vallejo Dark Gull Gray and I used the kit decals for all the instrument panels. I applied a wash of Raw Umber diluted with mineral spirits as well. Hasegawa did a good job with the intake and exhaust interiors so I just have to fill a few punch marks and do a little seam work but no intake or exhaust covers will be needed. I painted the intake interiors with Model Master Flat Black and Vallejo Silver. Stay tuned......

I made some good progress on the Italian F-104. I got the wheel bay painted using Vallejo Aluminum and treated it with a wash of Pledge Floor Wax and Acryl Black paint. I also painted the burner ring and can using Metalizer Burnt Iron. I then installed the cockpit tub, burner can and wheel bays in the fuselage and joined the halves. Everything fit really well when putting it all together. I started on the drop tanks also and got the kit tip tanks done and the CMK resin underwing tanks built. I am leaving the fins off the CMK tanks for now as they are very thin and I don't want to damage them during sanding. I found a cool pic of an Italian F-104 taking off (hauling a@# as the -104 was meant to do) and it has four borrowed tanks from a camo F-104 so I am going to do that on this build since I think it will look pretty cool that way. Those will be in RLM 71 Green with aluminum undersides. Anyway, stay tuned.......
