Following on from my Lenin plaque, Billy asked if Id do a step by step guide. So here goes, First I cast a section of plaster, its best to work when still not fully bone dry, With a ruler and a home made scribe, (Sewing needle in a brass tube) I add the mortar lines, using a paint brush to clear the lines from waste plaster Once all mortar lines are scribed, I use a ground needle file, that Ive shaped into a mini chisel, I either use this like a real chisel, or you can scrape the brick face to reduce the depth. To add rendering, I use masking tape, to make a jagged line and stick over the bricks I want to remain visible Next, mix some plaster, and paint onto the wall, this will dry really fast as the plaster wall absorbs the moisture from the render. Once set (very quickly) remove the tape, the plaster render will still be fairly thick. I use a scalpel to carefully thin the render

Nice SBS paul . Similar to how I made the wall for the little T72 a while back. Except I used cutting back way you mentioned, to get the depth for the bricks and then scribed in breeze blocks.

thanks for the info Paul, that's how I have made courses before. i was more interested in your method for recessing individual bricks within a course. This adds more interest in my view. i have attempted this and had real problems keeping the recessed brick sharp edged, the front face flat and then adding a groove around same for the mortar course.

Thanks Bill, for recessing the bricks, as mentioned, I mostly use my chisel needle file to reduce the face down. Try it when the plaster isn't completely rock hard, as it tends to chip the edged when fully set

Nice one mate, always wondered how to do that with the rendering.

Good job. I use posterboard or formbord when doing buildings.
