This kit has been on my radar for sometime and as I have a head start with the GB I thought this is as good a time as any to get this kit. So my impressions so far having built the lower hull/running gear but not the tracks. So as you'd expect for Tamiya it's a decent kit balanced between detail and ease of build. So no PE or metal barrel but you do get pre-sagged link-and-length tracks. A nice addition is that in the instructions they give you an actual size diagram of where the tracks go to help you get all the different lengths lined up. One part I thought was a bit cheeky not to have, clear parts for the vision blocks as they are exposed. Saying that that actual part that ends up clear is pretty small so it's not really a biggy. The one disappointment is the marking options for the British version, there's only one and it a single tone camo (light stone) with only a few numbers.
The build, no problems although the suspension is a bit fiddly but that's but Tamiya standards so it just means as the same as many vendors norms. The next stage is a plan of action for having painting the running gear as due to the side-skirts if I want to paint the tracks off the kit I'm going to have to that paint the run gear etc. and then mask it all of when painting the rest of the tank.
Edit: Not a lot to see yet (well I’ve also get a bunch of wheels) but here’s where we’re at.

Yes but I forgot to post them even if there's not a lot to see. I'll put them up toning when I get back.

Nice start mate, already it looks a much easier build than the AFV club valentine!

Nice start mate, already it looks a much easier build than the AFV club valentine! I built that one many years ago (it’s where I found some decals from) and from what I remember it was a bit fiddly but Tamiya just have the knack/skill of making kits easy to build. Strangely enough I’ve seen the odd comment that somehow that doesn’t make them the type of kits ‘real modellers’ should be building.

Well maybe those idiots should just build Miniart kits and nothing else . There is certainly naff all wrong with good old Tamiya kits, you just can't beat them

You'll probably find those that say stupid stuff like that never actually build em! Can't fault tamiya's latest kits myself they are just a joy to build.

Pete/Paul, in fairness I have seen the flip side, although to a lesser extent, that modellers who enjoy more challenging builds, historical accurate etc. are somehow ‘stupid’. There seems to be a certain, thankfully minority, in life who just can’t get their head around that the way they enjoy something isn’t the only way.
Well, some more to do and I’ve put most of the turret together (i’m even thinking of using the figures) and primed the lower hull and wheels. Next up is making a mix for the base sand colour.

Well I have done some more work on this one so wheels and lower hull painted, tracks assembled and given a basecoat and started blocking in the figures. I’ll post up some pictures later.

Which sand colour are you using Jabbs? The figures look spiffing already fella All Tamiya, so Desert Yellow + White (a bit) + Yellow (just a little bit). As for the figures, I’ve been saying for years I should at least try to do some so this is going to be a bit of a learning exercise.
