Thank you as always my Bootsbro. I've been scratching like h ll and to be honest I'm glad this is only a forgotten M47 Patton as there's so much more machinery stuffed in an operational turret. So I went for the ammo holders, heavily damaged seats... I started the paint job yesterday and this is how it looks now. There's a little more brushfiddlings to do to my likings.

How did you apply the oils? Very realistic look. Ian I' explain from a to z. I airbrushed on an acrylic satin rust color and after drying a layer of hairspray was applied with the airbrush as well and salt was sprinkled in the wet coat. I then sprayed on acrylic white thinned with Tamiya acrylic thinner. When this was dry I removed the salt with a toothpick and here and there I rubbed the white paint to create other small effects. This was then given a coat of Clear gloss. A dark wash was overall brushed on and after a couple of minutes I removed it here and there with a cotton swab. A pinwash was then applied. I mixed oil paints burnt umber, burnt sienna, black, yellow umber and with a small sponge between a pair of tweezers I softly stippled on more rust shades. With a toothpick subtle effects were scratched in the rust, this requires some patience but that's what us modellers are good at. With a stiff old brush and... again a toothpick (you gotta love 'em) very fine drops of thinned dark oil paint were shot at the turret basket. Use only 5% of the paint loaded in the brush so shoot away 95% or the model you' re painting will be ruined. All this had to dry overnight. Raw sienna mixed with yellow ocre and used pure to brush on a transparent light rust effect. My personal opinion on oils is that removing them sorts more effect than applying them. More soon and thanks brothas!

No problem at all Ian, I'm always glad to help if I can. With the interior finished the turret was closed with the upper half. Only minor filling was necessary. The fit of this Italeri oldie is surprisingly good. The horizontal racks on the sides were completed with weld seams. More steel texture was made and then there was this peculiar yet typical welded on round shaped plate to be copied. It can be found on the left and right side of the M47 turret, next to the gun mantlet. ONLY FOR REFERENCE PURPOSES!!!
Next to do is to remove the commander's sight as they seem to be absent on most or all abandoned M47's. The gutters don't come with the kit, the fiddling goes on for a while...
