Picked up a good size picture frame today that would make a suitable base for the Hellcat so I thought I'd add it here

Thank you Boots Now I've been told these decks were stained almost black when they was new and lightened in the weather, so what should I stain it with I certainly wouldn`t use Black mate..............it takes a lot less paint to darken a lighter colour than the other way round, i think you would achieve a good result by random Greys starting with the lightest and gradually darkening it with a few darker shades each time and then go with some washes to pick out the boards, you could also add the white stripes at a midway stage and then blend them in as well..................thats how i would probably go about it mucker, others may have differing suggestions Are you going to do the frame surround as well to match it in ?

Thanks Guy, You can get PE tiedowns for the deck but at £8 a fret I'll have to leave it
Boots, think you maybe right with the paint. I was thinking more staining than painting though. I have a bottle of black flory wash that I was going to test on some spare stirrers to see how it goes, keep adding coats to build it up

You could give it a go mate and see what happens.............just wondering whether the wood might absorb a lot of the wash, try it on some spare doo dahs and see what happens mate

Hiya Robbo, according to an old copy of Scale Models the decks were stained a very dark blue called Norfolk 250-N Flight Deck Stain used until 1942. Flight Deck Stain 21 was used from ‘42 until after Korea. It faded fast in the sun. Black was used after Korea until metal decks which were painted a dark grey. Hope that helps fella

Just been talking to the owner of Sovereign Hobbies who do the Colourcoats paints, now these are the nearest thing you'll get to the colour and the colour he showed me is as near to damn it the middle but just a tad lighter

Then thats the one ya need to work with i reckon............various washes dark and light randomly applied would be the way to go i reckon, if ya do some with heavier black base with the blue and some with lighter shades mixed in on the various planks i reckon you`ll be good to go mucker. Heading over your neck of the woods tomorrow
