Time for the absurd SU-100...or as I call it... the SU-100T.
This is a what-if, Privateer AFV. The idea is that a Polish based unit was given a number of SU-100s. These were upgunned from the D-10C gun to the D-10T gun, and upgraded optics, laser-range finder, and IR/white light spotlight. Essentially, this is a SU-100 armed to T-55 standards. You could say this works as a training system for T55 crews. However, the T55's loader, gunner, and commander are on opposite sides in the T34s, SU-xxs, and IS-tanks. Anyway, this thing is a glass cannon.
As an aside, the IS-2 was originally slated to use the D10C gun. It actually has better penetration and was considered to be more accurate. The 122mm D25 gun was more difficult to load but had a larger explosive filler...thus bigger boom...so they went with that. Plus, a IS-2 with a 100mm gun just looks tiny.
This is the Zvezda Su-100 kit. It's not bad, but it's not awesome either. I used a set of old Dragon T-34 tracks for it because the kit's tracks aren't great. For the re-imaging...I used a D-10T gun from a Trumpy T-55 kit. It's the leftover from the T-55 kit I used for the what-if T-55 based TD. Those old Trumpy T-55 kits come with alot of extras...that's where I also got the AA MG, range-finder, and spotlight. The kit's cylindrical fuel tanks were removed and one side's replaced with a T-55 aux tank. The Zvezda kit has an optional stowage box used on Yugoslavian examples. I added that.
Paint is dark green and black, lightened with a very light buff overspray. Light drybrush. Decals are basic and drawn from the spares. I used a Polish eagle on a red upside-down triangle. Numbers are pretty standard Soviet style.
In hindsight, I would have added armor and swapped out the roadwheels for the Cold War era spider-web patter wheels.

Thanks. It's absurd...but was a fun build. Most of my Privateer builds have a vein of absurdity running through them. I usually like to balance that out with a fair amount of feasible realism. I feel like I went a bit more absurd on this one. I guess this could be part of a service life extension program. It would basically be a self-propelled anti-tank gun with night-fighting capability.
