I pulled one off the shelf for a refurb since I have the Nimrod in the home stretch. I am going to refinish my Tamiya 1/32 scale F-4 which I had converted into an F-4S using the CAM resin conversion set. The plane was originally depicted in the markings of VF-302 "Stallions", also using CAM Decals, but I was never happy with the finish as the decals were printed too light and totally got lost in the Light Gull Grey. They should have been depicted in a darker grey and stood out much more on the plane. I picked up a set of Mil-Spec Decals for a USMC S-model from the "Shamrocks" of VMFA-333. I got the old decals removed and just have to clean up a few spots and will be ready for the new camo.

Thanks for stopping by, guys. So I have the new camo applied to the F-4 "Sierra." I caught it ahead of time, but Mil-Spec Decals had the wrong color call-out for the upper Dark Grey. They advised the color was FS35237 Medium Grey, which was the usual upper coat on F-14s, Prowlers and some Intruders. However, photos showed it was the much darker FS36118 Gunship Grey for that top color so that is what I used. (Fur Ball Decals called it correctly on their 1/48th Sierra Sheet for VMFA-333 birds.) I used all Vallejo on this so I will let this cure up and then there will be some substantial weathering.

Thanks, guys!! Made some good progress on the F-4S refurb and refinish. As USMC low-viz S-models are very weathered, I added heavy mottling to the camo colors, using various lightened shades of all the base colors. The mottling was applied with my Paasche V-Series double action with a #1 tip. I then removed the masks from the cockpit, bays and natural metal areas as I kept those as-is from the original build. Next is panel lines, oils and lots of grime.
