I'm building the Academy M36/B2. It's not a bad kit. I'll be interested to see the Uncle Tony Magic cast upon it.

I'm So Confused The more I read reviews and what was on one and what wasn't the more confused I get. I couldn't find anything that broke them down by production or years just a bunch of arm chair experts that I don't know which one to believe. I'll get by with a little help from my friends Tony lee

Last Update until Paint: The turret didn't even come close to fitting in the hull ring so out came my seldom used Dremel and a sanding drum. I had to remove a lot of material before the turret would fit correctly. Never read anything in the reviews warning of this problem. Tony lee

Looking good.
M36- used the M10a1 chassis (gasoline) M36B1- used the M4a3 chassis (gasoline) M36B2- used the M10 chassis (diesel)
Jacksons were upgraded and converted to B2 standards. M10s were upgraded to M36 standards. Most B2s were built post-war.
As far as the turret issue, I tested my Jackson turret. It fit fine on the M36/M36B2 hulls. However, I it was way too large for the Academy M4a3 upper hull ring. I'm going to assume Academy used the same parts tree as they did for their M4a3 105mm and 76mm kits.
It's a shame the B1 kit didn't get the full interior like the M36/M36B2 kit. That would have been a great source to snag a M4a3 interior. I'm sort of surprised they didn't offer it since they use the M4a3 for at least three kits.

Academy just threw a bunch of parts from other kits in a box and called it the M36B1 as a money grab no doubt. I won't buy another Academy with out knowing for sure what i'm getting. Thanks Tony lee

That's probably a good assessment. I think they cut corners to put a B1 out...it's really a FrankenKit. They did something similar with their M4a3 HVSS 105mm w/Dozer blade. The dozer blade isn't the correct type for a HVSS machine and requires a degree of Dremel powered persuading to mount. The M36/M36B2 kit is really a nice kit. If it had an engine I'd use it for my Restoration Project. Even their M4a3 isn't a bad kit. This is the interior for the M36/M36B2 kit (#13501). I'm building it right now and have been happy with it.
