Looking bloody my dear neighnour . I have been using that method on the tracks for ages now, I sometimes also use a small pump spray bottle to cover them first

Paul, thanks a lot chap. I think I discovered this technique on Nightshifts' channel, so much more economic that way, isn't it? Pete, thanks mucker Boots: yeah, it's much better way to blacken the tracks than the proposed way by the companies (I do understand though, they want to sell more and more often of their products ) Ian, thanks mate, glad you like it. Just a small update. The running gear received it's initial earth/mud texture by adding AK's texture paints. I blended it in a bit with some water. Just the base though, it will change dramatically. One can ask why I even bothered chipping and pinwashing the wheels...

Paul: yeah, that was one of the main reasons why I wanted to try out the technique as well Thanks chaps. Some more running gear, and especially: dirt. As with all my projects, I can never stick to the 'dusty' look. Somehow I always want some form of mud and muck. Can't help it LOL After the tracks were blackened and it had dried I started with a wet application of Ammo Dry Earth splashes enamel onto the tracks. While that was still wet I added some dots of the Ammo Loose Ground splashes and Ammo Nature Effects Earth. This were gently blended in but not too much. This had to dry and it gives a great texture and variety of colours already. To enhance it I thinned Burnt Umber oil paint and also Light mud oil paint. These were splattered on using a flat brush and a toothpick. Looks tasty. The wheels were treated with the same enamels and oils as well. On some wheels the enamel dried glossy. Not sure but that might got something to do with the fact that the paint on the wheels were satin. Anyhow, I'm not worrying too much, hope I'll resolve that. The running gear needs to be enhanced a tad further with some oil paints, but first the splatter need to dry. Also I had to resculpt tarp the hanging fromt he rear stowage bin. The one from Magic Sculpt became brittle somehow so I decided to redo it with green stuff. And that's it for today's session ^^

Wow, chaps, thanks for the great comments, always glad to read people like what they see Time to update this one: The polished surfaces of the wheels were painted with Tamiya Flat Aluminium, and when dry. I added AK Dark Steel pigment and buffed it with a sculpting tool. After that it was time to fit the running gear to the Panther. The tracks got treated as well. The outer contact surfaces were sanded to show the bare metal, as well as the guide horns. The polished track surface where the wheels touched the tracks were done by rubbing a graphite pen and then buffing it. After that some light rust was applied to some guide horns I wanted to fit the tracks to the running gear, but somehow the track runs are a tad short (which is strange because I fitted them unpainted to the Panther and all was fine). I need to add one or two track links per run. So those need to be weathered accordingly. Go figure

Bloody excellent Wouts . I have had that happen with metal tracks too, check that they really are sitting on the wheels. I have noticed that some Frillies are good without paint, but when paint goes on they are tight and don't slip onto the wheel as they did when test fitting. They only need to be 0.5mm above the wheel, that will add up and make you think they are actually too short.
