Ian, yes, Tamiya's design of the fuselage is amazing.

I've painted the lower wing section white, and the two upper inboard sections Light Gull Grey. I think these will need another coat before I'm happy with the finish. I've a few bits and pieces I can stick together to progress it a bit more while giving the paint a day or so to harden off

Yep---Tamiya's kit is amazing. So I finished the cockpit tub and the decals Tamiya provides for the instrument panels are really nice. I do have to go back and repaint the scopes as Tamiya's color callout was wrong. Pilot's scope should be clear red and the RIO's scope should be clear orange. I then installed the afterburner assembly, nose gear bay and cockpit tub and glued the fuselage together. Perfect fit, once again. I then built the wing assembly. Tamiya provides drop in parts for the gear bay walls and the detail is really nice. I then glued the wings to the fuselage and you guessed it, perfect fit. Tamiya provides a one piece fuselage spine and this is a drop fit. The only place that even needs sanding and filling is on the two scoops on either side of the nose and a seam there was totally unavoidable because of how Tamiya designed the fuselage piece under the nose. So about 2 minutes worth of sanding there and she will be ready for primer.

Just a small update.

I've given the engines, which are behind the auxiliary air intake doors a wash to bring out the detail. The forward undercarriage bay has also been given a wash before being assembled as well as the internal surfaces of the exhaust. Even though you can see very little once assembled, Tamiya have even added rivet detail inside these!
Just noticed I forgot to paint some details inside the undercarriage bay.
