While I wait for supplies to arrive to complete my Tiger Dio I couldn't resist making a start. It's a kit I've always wanted to build as the real thing really is a lovely bit of kit. If i'm right, it's a kit dating back to the 70's? It certainly does show it age compared to some modern kit sprues, but it will no doubt be a lot of fun to build. As I do like a bit of photo-etch embellishment I couldn't resist a few little extras. I have a great idea brewing (even if I do say so myself) for the dio, so let's crack on! Cheers Mark

Tonight I kicked off the build after studying the instructions and conversions. Considering the age the flashing hasn't been too bad so far. Some of the fitting is a bit dodgy, but that's just a result of the age of the tooling I guess. I started on the first leg of the cruciform and what a start with all of the removal required and fitting of PE. It was a little bit fiddly in places, but it delivers alot more detail and makes it look less clunky. Another one to make and it should be a bit easier and quicker second time around (he says hopefully ) That's all for now. Cheers Mark

Wow what a great start and some nice shiny stuff
I lost my patience when I attempted to build this kit a few years ago and it got binned….but looks like your wrangling this into shape Cheers Si. After completing the 1/24 Airfix Tiffie, where all parts needed to be within 0.000001mm tolerance for it to go together properly, this is alright

Nice choice Mark and with some bling too! I always wanted one of these in the 70's but as a kid I could never afford it. So this will be interesting

Evening All A quick update tonight while I download some other pics from today's session. First up I did the 2nd cruciform leg. I decided to build the anchors that are attached to the leg myself. I found that trying to trim the kit part was fiddly and not that easy to get a even finish. I used a 1mm brass rod cut to size, then added the fins on and the end cap from some rod styrene. Much easier, quicker and fewer choice words The handle locks to keep everything in place were made with 0.2 lead wire and held in place with a little blob of superglue. Next step was to start work on the fixed arms of the cruciform. It involved adding some additional sections and removing some moulded hinges and locks ready for PE. So far the build has been reasonably straight forward, however, the age of the tooling is really evident in the injection pin marks, mould lines and flash. There's been quite a lot of sanding and filling, but that 's all part of modelling isn't it. Cheers Mark

Good idea with the rod. I think I used rod of various sizes in every build I do
