Just in case anyone hasn't stumbled across this on Youtube - As cautioned in the video, do this outside, as it produces nasty dangerous fumes. Can't beat a bit of real rust for pennies though. I haven't tried this myself yet, but will be soon

Nice, might try that one day. For heavy rust I use pigments, then paint over them and chip the paint away afterwards . Case Tractor from last year: Suez Cent from 2017 :

steel wool,vinegar and salt. i use an aerosol cap and use just enough liquid to soak the wool. leave for a week stir occasionally and your rust is good to go. only issue is it is quite dark so pigments may still be needed. bill

looks very interesting. So far I've used pigments or pastels ground up and dabbed onto wet oil paint.
