As it happens, I'm joining the MHO while square in the middle of a project that happens to be one I refer to as a "palette cleanser". Much like the dinner course, this build was intended to refresh me and follows a project that took a very long time to complete, leaving me feeling "overloaded". From the outset, I planned for this model to have no aftermarket parts, minimal scratch-building, and just a few normal modeling techniques applied. So far, it has filled it's purpose perfectly!
The construction was fairly straight-forward with me adding just a few improvements. This wasn't so much that the build absolutely needed anything done, it was just a creative choice on my part. If I remember correctly (and I have problems remembering yesterday's dinner), construction took about 14 days:
Once built, I mixed up a custom blend of a Russian green from my available supply of Model Master enamels and applied it to all the disassembled parts. BTW, I'm "old school" and use enamels as my base coats on all my builds:
Since applying the base coat, I've applied the markings, paint streaking (fading), a pin wash, chips, and subtle rust effects. The build is now pretty much ready for weathering:
The next build will obviously get more complete coverage and might be coming fairly quickly. I anticipate this one getting finished in the next week or 10 days.
Until next time...

Very nice indeed Robert . Until about 7 years ago, I was a die hard enamel user also. But then, the acrylics crept in and since then, they have taken over

That's very nice for an Eastern Express kit.
I'd use enamels if I could but the Mrs would have me using the AB in the garden!

Great work Robert, looking very nice Don’t see many builds/ kits of the BT series, considering it has an interesting back story and a significant place in Russian tank history.

Thanks for all the kind introductory comments.
It's been a slow few days and I just started the weathering process this morning. So it might be up to a week before there's anything significant to show.

After a further week of work on the build, I just about have the lower hull, wheels, and tracks weathered. I normally like to do all (or nearly all) the weathering on this part of a tank first as it will lay the groundwork [excuse the pun] for how the upper areas will be weathered. On this build I'm going to a fairly heavy weathering with the tank operating in a wet, partially muddy environment. Here's what the lower hull looks like:
With the lower hull done, I'll now move to the upper hull and turret for the remaining weathering. I'm just slightly behind my original planned completion date, but should be done within the next 10 days or so.
Until next time...
