During the BTR project I picked up a tip on YouTube for replicating dust and dirt on tires. It's a good technique because it really replicates the build-up of dirt that collects in the tread of the tire: 1) Apply Tamiya X-20A Thinner with a brush over the tire 2) While the thinner is still wet, apply heavy layers of the pigment. For the BTR I used AK-147, Middle East Soil. 3) Once the pigment is on, take a stiff brush or Q-tip to remove the excess. It leaves a nice dust build-up on the tire and down in the treads. 4) There didn't seem to be a need to apply pigment fixer since the thinner works as a fixer but from underneath.
