The colour looks brilliant Ian. If anyone can get a close match it should be Tamiya?

The middle picture looks a different colour to my eyes. Strange!

Very nice paintwork, and good to see the Eternal Zero in it's basecoat. I never realized that the white color on the zero was...less white. Really like that. And luckily we don't have the 'colorpolice' here at the forum. At FB a member of the colorpolice gave me a fine for not having used the 'historically accurate' color on my cockpit What's next step? Decals or first some more detailpaintwork?

Brilliant work! I read somewhere that they finally found out what the upper color was on those Zeros: It is a caramel color actually. They found out because back in the day when Zeros came down over or near the Home Islands, they would go out and use the largest parts for makeshift roofs and walls. Many of them kept the parts long after they were no longer needed as a roof or wall.

Thanks, guys! Wouts, next step will be some fading and post shading. I will be depicting V-128 which was believed to have been flown by Sakai and Nishizawa ("The Devil of Rabaul") in the Rabaul sector. This one will have some fading and oxidation of the paint due to the pace of operations there. Duke, yes, it is interesting how all that information was developed about the paint color, especially through Nick Millman's research. I guess the rule of thumb right now is Tamiya XF-76 for a faded bird and slightly more of the tan/caramel hue if it was a newer A6M, perhaps in China, Phillipines, Java and the earlier battles. As Tommy noted above, it is interesting how the hue of the XF-76 paint shifts, depending on the light.
