On its way to me this week, my entry for this GB I'll be finishing it as a 244th aircraft that was flown against B-29s. Once the guns were empty the pilot would ram the lead B-29 in a formation. If the attacker was lucky this would cause an explosion that would damage or even down other bombers. The Hien pilot would bail out if he could, go back the airbase and take off in another aircraft to do it all over again!

The Hien! Great choice, Steve; Japan's only mass produced inline fighter.

Hi all Thanks stopping by B) Kicked this off with the cockpit as usual. Nice details and great fit, just as you'd expect from Tamiya. I was going to really push the detail painting but the canopy is one piece closed only so picked out the good bits and dirtied it up You can't see the guns so no point going any further than a block coat of colour. So far it's fun!

Beautiful, Steve! I have been reading about the Ki-61 in the Osprey "Aces" book. Very interesting aircraft.

That is a cool bird, the pilots must have been extremely dedicated to their deadly tasks.

Thanks for the great comments fellas. Ian, I was reading about their high altitude use. Stripped of some guns, armour and radios to make them fly high enough to reach the B-29's and fast enough to escape the P-51 escorts. Desperate times.. Cockpit finished with the addition of the IP , gun sight and seat belts. The IP dials are decals plus some paint. Belts are kit supplied decals too which will be fine under the closed canopy. Tommy, The colour is quite tame compared to the Zero but that helps me build quickly. Cockpit goes up into the fuselage and wings under that. The fit is the best I've ever seen, no gaps or edges to speak of. Now I have to wait for the canopy masks I ordered from Hannants before I can primer coat. Have to say I'm less than impressed with their service, I ordered the masks 5 days ago and paid from 1st Class delivery and today I received an email saying my order was being posted.. 7 days Hannants.. really? I'll work on the details while I lookout for the Posty!

Looking very ship shape and Bristol fashion to me, particularly when you consider it is 1/72.

Darned awesome detail on that office Steve . I have quit looking at Hannants, since Brexit they don't deliver to Europe anymore, and I have heard many a complaint like yours also.
