Kari, that is out of this world my friend You must have the patience of a priest to accomplish PE detailing that well I don't know about that patience... I am a bit worried that my neighbours will kick me out of my apartment because more than a few times I have really lost my nerves with these tiny PE parts :Mad_6:

Anyone? I got my new decals (thanks to my local dealer) and everything went well until he final flat clear coat. After two layers of Tamiya XF22 it is still gloss??? What did I do wrong? Thanks again!

Sorry, not sure how that happened. Maybe one of the other lads can help.

So I think what you may have used was Tamiya X-22 which is actually a semi-full gloss varnish. A lot of modelers use X-22 as a clear varnish or an additive to matte paints to make them glossy. If you want a Tamiya Matte Varnish, I think you need XF-86.

I am confusing the Tamiya codes (I have both X-22 and XF-86, XF-22 is actually RLM Grey), but I am sure that I used XF-86 for the final layers. The clear coat underneath was VMS Varnish HD Gloss. I diluted the colour Mr. Color Levelling Thinner, but I guess that should not have this kind of effect...?

Decided to have a final try and very lightly wet sanded the glossy area with grit 2000 paper. After that I sprayed two thin layers of Vallejos Matt Varnish and voila: perfect matt finish! Do not know what happened but this was good recovery.

Seasons greetings from Finland 🎄! Here IS finally my IJN Kagero. Not 100 % ready, some fine tuning left. My sincere thanks for you all, especially Paul, Wouter and Olli Immonen. Could not have done IT without your priceless advice! Some preliminary pictures with My phone.
