I believe those canisters or tubes are actually rocket launchers Guy . Guess we'll have to wait a tad for Ian or Steve to drop in again, to clarify the usage of them. I'm sure they'll drop a bombshell lol!

Found a pic of 19 round launchers which come with the Tamiya kit (without the pointy cone).

Guy, the triangular, elongated tubes in the other photo are CBU-22 and CBU-25 dispensers which were favored on USAF Skyraiders and B-26K Counter-Invaders. Regarding the other B@W photo, yes, that is a Skyraider and probably depicting an AD-4. However, those are LAU-3 19 shot pods on the pylons which would be perfect for a 'Nam, carrier based SPAD. That was a popular pod for A-4 Scooters and SPADS. The two drop tank idea would be good too, as they liked to carry those to expand the SPAD's loiter time, especially on RESCAP missions and close air support.

......I forgot to add, sometimes the LAU-3 is seen with the aerodynamic cone shaped fairing on the back and front end. It was removable so the pods can be seen with the fairings on both the front and back, sometimes just on the back, or not at all with all the rocket holes showing fore and aft. Lots of latitude with how they can be displayed.

Well I’m sorry but this is not how a modelling forum works. The idea is that someone posts what they are doing and then someone chimes in that they’re a complete idiot and they don’t know what they doing and they have the references to prove it. Next someone will post an actually image saying the last person was wrong.
All this helpful stuff is not on you know!

I probably should have given a response from the standard modeling forum template: "Why are you even building the Tamiya Skyraider? Everybody knows the wing root is molded 1.526666 millimeters aft of datum. That's why I will never build the fourteen of them in my stack." "Why are you asking these questions. Have you never heard of Wikipedia?" "Who would even build a USN Skyraider? Everybody knows that all shades of Light Gull Grey model paint have improper Mensel values regarding reflectivity quotients." "I refuse to build this kit. Meng is releasing one in 2042. I will wait." "I heard that Eduard is releasing Brassin correction sets to replace the whole plane, because it is incorrect according to my measurements because I stayed up all night measuring it with an electron micrometer while watching Jerry Springer episodes."
