I made some progress on the KA-3B. Assembly has been trouble-free but Trumpeter's instructions are a soup sandwich. They were calling out installation for these huge strakes on the rear fuselage which aren't even used on the KA-3B but fortunately I caught it before I put them on, thanks to the Ginter KA-3B book. The wing root joint is superb and the wings will be painted separately and then glued on at the very end. On the downside, Trumpeter supplies parts for the dropped flaps but does not tell you in the instructions. Also, there are three actuators that are all different and specific to left and right side so I had to figure that out, which was a treat. Using the Ginter book I figured out the most common wing control surface configuration for when they are on the ground: 1) Inner slats up, outer slats down 2) Inner flaps down, outer flaps up I really need to fold the wings on this because of the size but I don't trust Trumpeter's PE wing fold mechanism in regards to supporting the weight.

Thatโs a bummer about the wing fold, Ian. But it does look good so far.

Unless that etch is the same the Verlinden material from the 80's, then it certainly won't carry the weight.

And the way the wing fold is designed, if I used a mounting rod it would be pretty obvious that's what it was and look kind of cheesy. So I guess she will sit wings down next to the Nimrod.

Thank you, John! Yes, the Ginter books are very helpful, especially for naval aviation subjects. I just ordered the Ginter book for the PBM Mariner.

Another one which I missed. Nice subject Ian, looking good so far mate. Curious to see how this unfolds (pun intended )

Thanks, Wouts! Getting close to the primer phase on this one. This one will probably move a little faster because there are no drop tanks or ordnance to deal with.

I did some more seam clean-up on the wing sections. There was a difficult, concave seam at the back of the engine pylon which would have been impossible to fill and sand. Instead, I covered the concave, horizontal seam with a section of double-layered masking tape which was sealed with super thin CA Glue. The vertical seam was then covered with an elliptical-shaped piece of sheet stock. Helluva 'lot easier than sanding......all done. Almost ready to primer this beast.

John, Guy---thanks, gents! John, you are correct; the final reveal photos will have to be taken in the neighbor's driveway because I don't have a backdrop big enough inside the house. I am about ready for primer but just got word from the Corrosion Control Team there is no Light Gull Grey in the inventory right now so a mail-drop will be pending. LOL!
