Well with the bench in progress of getting a good tidy-up it's time to start this one for the Movie Stars GB, yes I know, I know but this is going to take at least a few months so unless I start it now I've got no hope of meeting the deadline!
So I was going to do some nice pictures of sprues but to honest they are already quite a few YT videos up doing a better job than I could.
Anyway moving on, my first impression is this will build into an impressive kit with some good details (I'm assuming that if you wished, I don't, you could add even further detailing) but the part the really stands out - the size of it. Obviously I realised it's 1/24 but it's still a bit of a moment when you look at the parts.
Exactly how good it is I'm not really going to know into the build but some things I've noticed. The overall detail is nice and even as far having a stretched skin appearance although how much that's going to show under paint I'm not sure. Some parts that did standout as a bit soft where the browning MG's. Strangely enough I have got a suitable set in brass but I'm not intending to do the whole remove the panels thing as personally it just looks strange to me. Flash doesn't look like a problem and yes there are injector pin marks but I presume they are generally in a place where that won't be noticeable.
The cockpit, well there's lots of bits to it but just how it compares to the real thing I'm not sure but heh it should look good anyway. A couple of things I'm not so sure about are the IP where you have the options of one with raised dials you can handpaint (good luck anyone who wants to try that) or one with 20+ separate decals. I'm going for the latter and I don't think it's going to be hard but instead laborious. The second one the harness, there is one but it's moulded in plastic so will probably need some thinning to get it looking better.
Some other parts, the exhausts are I believe slightly incorrect as they don't have a seam line and the canopy. You get two as Airfix are quite upfront and saying to get the correct bulge you end with a seam line. Looking at it it's pretty faint and my understanding is that it's fairly easy to polish it out.
Onto the instructions, as you might expect there's a lot at 244 steps over 44 pages. I rather like Airfix instructions as they tend to be a less busy than some and they have the nice idea of a following step shows the parts you've just fitted in red in case you've missed something. The even made it so the colour callouts have a little coloured paintbrush to make it a bit easier.
Overall all I like it a lot and you even get a poster of the box artwork.
