So just throwing up some starter pics and making a thread. I'll be making the "Panther" from the movie "A Bridge Too Far". I'll be using Tamiya's Leopard 1 kit. It should be fun.

Thanks I think it'll be a fun build.
I had the idea to do it like a behind the scenes scene...in between shots. But over planning builds is how I get into trouble. I'll probably keep it super simple.

Well I steamed through the assembly of the suspension. I really thought this was based on their Gepard. The Leo is showing its age. Plus there's some issues with the turret that is make this a pain to work through.
Suspension is very simple...simplified.
Then the problem. The Tamiya kit's turret is really wrong. The Tamiya turret is all wrong. That's an Italeri Leo 1 turret for comparison. It's going to complicate the whole process of working through the mock-ups basing it on the pictures. As fat the cheek sections are the flat armor panels stick out funny or are too vertical.
It mocks me
Anyway...I'll finish up basic assembly this weekend. Then see about that turret problem. That said, I really have to admit a newfound appreciation for the Italeri turret. She's a beaut.

I like the mocking face.
Good luck with the construction, though!

Nice work with the hull. I am sure you will work your way around the turret issue.

Yeah it's workable. It surprised me how off the Tamiya turret is. I know those early motorized based kits have issues simplify detail and tweak angles to allow the motor bits to fit inside. I ended up doing some painting on some other builds. I may try to wrap up the OOB portions of assembly Sunday and/or Monday. At least what I can do before the Pantherization movie witchcraft parts are started.
I had ordered the Leo1 right before the Group Builds were finalized. Thought it fit perhaps even prophetic so...I'll go with it. The larger turret front is going to change the look a bit. Stuff happens.

Tamiya usually doesn't get shapes wrong. But they have measured the wrong tanks on occasion. Chances are that Tamiya simply took measurement from a prototype. I think i have sen this turret on one of them .

The Tamiya kit left off the whole gun mantlet cover, didn't they?

The Tamiya kit left off the whole gun mantlet cover, didn't they? Yeah they forgot the mantlet. That's not a huge deal. A bit of tissue paper and PVA glue should make due.
