Back to Oddballs Sherman . The running gear has been sprayed with Tamiya XF-69, Nato Black, which is IMHO a good shade for rubber tyres . While having the AB loaded with XF--69, I used this to add a pre-shade to all edges and welds on the Sherman. Next up will be the camo colour. Now I have a question here. I have two choices, either Olive Drab which need fading to an extreme or, Field Grey which will also need fading. What do you chaps reckon? I am really leaning towards Field Grey.

Cheers Guy, my dear friend . I went heavy with it, as it usually disappears when the main colour goes on

You should add enough clear gloss and thinner meister P. 👍

You should add enough clear gloss and thinner meister P. 👍 Oh yes, I shall probably use Tamiya paints for this, and a good drop of gloss is always an excellent additive to their XF paints. It stops them turning furry or rough when spraying

It stops them turning furry or rough when spraying I always add clear gloss to the xf mixtures otherwise it feels like spraying on pure dust, with a hairy coat as a result. And the airbrush won't easily clog.

Very nice looking Sherman, think the field grey would make a nice change to the usual OD Shermans....
Must remember the " adding gloss" advice 👍

As promised, here's the camo colour . I went with Tamiya XF-65, this was mixed with IPA and X-22 gloss to smooth the XF paint down. First pass was neat XF-65. This was then thinned with a mix of sandy Tamiya paints which I usually use for Brit desert vehicles. The mix was lightened twice. After that I mixed an off white using Tamiya XF-2 (white) and a drop of XF-25 (Light Sea Grey) for the stars . Firstly, here's a picture from the tunnel scene which made me go for Field Grey. First coat of XF-65 neat. Second coat of XF-65 lightened. Third and final coat of lightened XF-65. Stars applied using Solid Scale stencils and the off white mix. Tomorrow I might a shiny coat on and then add the vehicle registration numbers (USA 301101), using Archer Dry rub Transfers. I also have the posters, Green Route, French signs etc. printed off , so these will get damaged and glued on also .
