Tamiya F4F-4 Wildcat

Here's what is currently occupying my bench at this time.  It's Tamiya's Wildcat kit.  It has an Aires CP, Wolfpack wing fold set, Squadron canopy, Techmod decals.  
I'm building this to represent Capt Marion E. Carl's Wildcat in the PTO.  It turns out he was born in my home state and returned here after retirement from the USMC. 

For the base coats I have used Vallejo paints. I had laid down a light dusting of Vallejo Chipping Medium first. Just a dusting of this stuff helps to achieve some nice chipping effects.


The prop has since received a light coat of Satin clear coat to knock down the sheen of the prop hub.


All of the control surfaces were painting a bit lighter, as these were fabric covered, and appeared lighter.





The decals settled down rather nicely, with the only exception being the fuselage insignias. These had a hard time settling down over the fuselage rivets.




This was todays progress. Exhaust stacks and staining.



I still have a few MV lenses in my stash. These always work well for landing lights.


Paint weathering was done with airbrush, Vallejo Effects, and MIG oils
