The mozzy is coming along nicely Robbo.
To my eye the prop looks best in a very dark grey, I mean NATO black dark. Black is a very strong colour and can overpower everything else making the model look like a toy. The black used on the aircraft was actually called'Night' and there were a few shades of that too, just to make it fun. Ground crews often polished the aircraft to make it faster so I'd go Tamiya X-18 for the airframe and lighten it a bit for the props.

I'm going to talk to my advisor at the show this Sunday about it Steve, Nato black does sound good but putting a shine on it I'm not too sure about that, just doesn't sit right with me

Thanks for following fellas Little bit more, getting bits ready for the rest of the interior so I thought I'd break out the AB Weird how that nose comes as a separate piece had to tape it to the mat to make sure it's square before I put all the little bits in, a lot of detail in the cockpit end Excellent progress, Robbo! I think Tamiya did the nose as a separate piece so they could use the same fuselage for the solid gun-nose and radar nose versions.

Got told the exact same thing at the show today Ian, cheers for that
There was two Lancasters painted one with straight flat black and the other one was done with a hint of white added to it, the one with white added looked better

That's the scale effect, straight black is too strong a contrast for most models for my eye. I always lighten it, or any other colour, with either grey or white, even brown if I want a warmer colour.

Yes Steve I'm glad I saw it side by side, you can't see it in the photo but it was very clear to the eye

Yes, Robbo, like Steve said, a faded scaled down black shade looks more realistic. I always liked Luftwaffe RLM 66 for a good, faded black undercoat. Then I would apply some areas that were true black on top of that and then tint or mottle other areas with grey or brown. Model Master made a great color years ago called Scale Black which had a nice tint of grey in it. Also that black paint on the Mossies, Lancasters, Stirlings and Halifax's weathered very heavily, judging by photos.

So would NATO black be good a base coat? Than some lighter and some black can be used?

NATO Black is another good Scale Black color to use. I like the Tamiya and AK Shades.

I've been working on that cockpit, just got to let it dry a bit to give it a bit of dry brushing and you can see it before it gets closed up

That certainly looks nice, Ian. Well done. I remember the first time I saw this kit. They had just one at Hannants in London. Ray who ran the shop, let me drool all over it. I thought it was the best thing Iād ever seen.
