Jeff, Boots and Paul, many thanks guys. Whaddaya think? Ya'll want another update? OK then the aft secondary gun turret has been assembled. I tried if I could use the etch parts for the tripod on top (didn't work out on the forward turret) and somehow it went easy this time I also started one of the four armoured 25mm triple AA guns at the flight deck. I replaced the guns with replacement parts, together with some railing, which - to my own surprise - went on quite easy. And one of the famous BIC pens for comparison of size The AA gun platforms on the No. 2 and 3 main turrets received resin sandbag protection The aft AA gun platform was finished as well It itched a lot to start the paint flowing so I decided to paint the main gun turrets already. First of all I painted some Mr. Metal primer on the gun barrels to make sure that the paint would adhere well. After that I gave the turrets some very light coats of Mr. Surfacer 1500 (the grey variant this time) 24 hours later I could start preshading the turrets. I used a mix of Flat Brown and black if I'm not mistaken, thinned with Mr. Levelling thinner. After that the basecoat: Tamiya IJN Grey mixed with some clear (note that the preshade is hardly visible anymore) I started highlighting the turrets. I used two different highlights, but things were kept subtle, unlike the heavier contrast I tend to use on my armor. I painted the details like the blast bags and canvas additional protection to the gun platforms. The blast bags were painted Vallejo Deck Tan and highlighted with Silvergrey. For the canvas bags I used Iraqi Sand and highlighted with Iraqi Sand mixed with some offwhite. The highlights might be hardly visible though. After that it was time for a bit of filtering. I used the following oils for this: ABT140 Basic Flesh Tone Winsor & Newton Yellow Ochre ABT150 Field Grey ABT235 Intense Blue ABT100 Neutral Grey. I moistened a part of the turret with Abteilung odorless turpentine first and then randomly added dots of thinned oiled paint (on the photo the turret was a bit too wet, no worries though smile p After that I used a dry brush to blend in the colors. I stabbed the paint rather than dragging it down. I wasn't aiming for a streaking effect here. More like getting colorvariations on the basic paintwork. Since the paintwork is in between a matt and satin finish I used a hairdryer at low speed from a distance to speed up the drying process. Otherwise there was a possibility of ending up with tide marks. The result is rather subtle and quite hard to capture on camera. In the flesh the effect is much more clear. I have had thumbs up from Marijn Van Gils so I must have done something good And this is how she stands for a year now Cheers

Guys many thanks for the great comments ^^ Nemo: perhaps the etch is more extensive, however, your scratchbuilding is just a lot more original since you all did it yourself AND it looked good. Scratchbuilding is a whole different level I think Boots, thanks for the encouraging. Yamato's build is stalled for a year almost now, I tried to solder the rear mast about year ago but trying to get all the bits and bobs alligned is a pain in the bum to say the least. Maybe I'll continue with the open triple 25mm AA guns...but that will take some time. Ferkin' tiny and consists out of a lot of parts...and there are 28 of them Cheers

It’s the tiny parts and high count of them that puts me off these kits, love to build one though
