It’s the tiny parts and high count of them that puts me off these kits, love to build one though Yup........me `n` all Steve
I have to switch between etch and plastic otherwise i`ll go stir crazy.......the Faun Transporter i`m doing is a big kit with loads of etch but nothing to match this scale of skill.......i find 2 or 3 bits and then build somat chunky far suits me

Just give in to the Dark Side Steve, it's fun though it can be quite crazy indeed, the tiny triple AA guns count almost 20 parts each...how do you Anglofiles call that? Glutton for punishment But I agree Boots, sometimes you need to switch to plastic or you get crazy Cheers

What? 4 years since I update this one? mmm...that's not ok LOL. At the beginning of last year I made a start on detailing the smoke stack, but never took some decent photos. So, it got almost finished and I took out the Canon for some photos. The pagoda style bridge has been detailed as well. Not everything's there just yet, but it starts to look like the bridge of the mighty Y now. The superstructure has been etcherized as well and I forgot, but it seems I primed it to look for errors. As you can see on the next photo there's a part missing on the exhaust area of the smoke stack (on of the beams or whatever one needs to call it). It got eaten by the carpet monster. So I'll need to figure a way to replicate that. Probably I'll use some thin paper soaked in ca glue. Needless to say that all those fine details were quite timeconsuming and especially nervewrecking, but in the end worth the effort I think The bridge and exhaust dry fitted on the superstructure. The stairs are a mix of Tamiya etch (which is very hard and difficult to clean up) and the Pontos stairs/ladders. I had to revert to Tamiya ones because I folded some of the Pontos stairs in the wrong direction which rendered them useless. The smaller aft 10m rangefinder has been detailed as well, though not finished yet. Some of the small triangle shaped supports were scratchbuilt since Tamiya ommitted them. The 15.5m rangefinder has been detailed as well, though still a WIP Hopefully next update won't take me 4 years again ey (atrb_partsz)

Pete, thanks mate, not sure if bravery got anything to do with it though Guy: thanks chap, yeah, I'm glad I finally found the 'goesting' (yeah, Flemish word again lol) to continue this one Tommy: thanks for the capitals mate ^^ Some more detailing now. I finished pretty much all the details on the 15.5M rangefinder, Type 21 radar array and the Hoiban low range director. I must say I'm not 100% with the way the railing sits on top of the Hoiban directer. I was quite having a struggle with it, but I'm going to leave it as is, I won't take the risk ruining it completely :/ And imagine encountering a lighter this size ey, would scare the crap out of me

NO. Where did you get such a big lighter from? Hush hush, I have a secret supplier. You want some? Paul: Way too kind neighbour, thanks. I reckon if you go for it you could much better than me . As long as you got patience, glue and a whole vocabulary of swear words (Germans hav some great ones, don't they? ) you'll be alright ^^

Agreed! I couldn't do that to save my life! I've been practicing for years too; so far I've never gotten any better...

Wow Wouter! You really set the bar high - just amazing stuff! But I guess this is why we need to practise hard in order to reach your level some day...
One technical question regarding the ladders: in which order do you bend the parts? First twist the individual steps into correct angle and then sides or vice a versa? I struggled with this in my Liberty and was not able to reach an acceptable quality.
These carpet monsters seem to be something that are spreading throughout the modelling world (lost at least a dozen PE parts).

Thanks a lot gents, you're way too kind. karih: regarding the stairs: first bend the sides, if you do the steps first you'll make it a lot harder on yourself. Once the sides are folded I take finetipped tweezers and gentle twist the steps in the right direction.

Thanks for confirmation!
