Hi folks
To kick off I would like to build the Tamiya 1:35th scale British Self-Propelled Anti Tank Gun "Archer". Production started in mid-1943 and the Archer entered service in October 1944. It was used in North-West Europe and (in 1945) in Italy. By the end of the war 655 of them had been produced. The Archer was classified as a self-propelled anti-tank gun and like the British 3in SPG M10 and 17pdr SP Achilles was operated during the war by the Royal Artillery (RA) rather than by Royal Armoured Corps units. The vehicles were never called "tank destroyers" as the British and Commonwealth armies never used the tank destroyer doctrine instead they were called "self-propelled anti-tank guns".
Post-war the Archer served with the Egyptian Army. The Archer served with some units of the Royal Armoured Corps in the British Army of the Rhine (BAOR) in the early 1950s. The vehicle was unique as its gun was mounted facing the rear of the chassis instead of the front.

Construction starts with the lower hull and drivers compartment. Very little cleaning up needs to be done and the parts simply slot together as can be seen.

Cheers
Gaz

It's a lot easy to build and looks just as good as the other brand I built back a couple years ago.
I'm watching too

When I last posted I had got most of the interior done so I can now concentrate on the running gear. In typical Tamiya style the parts simply fall together once released from the runner. There are only five parts to this assembly, very little in the way of mould seams which is an added bonus.

Four of these are needed and as you can see they are "handed"

Once fitted the lower hull starts to take shape.

Cheers

Superb stuff, certainly far easier than building the AFV club valentine running gear!

It one of those odd things Marco, what looks like the front is the back. The idler wheels look like an after thought and simply stuck on in the corner. Me likes too

Spot on Gaz, good choice. Thank you very much Mence after the fall of MM I was a tad Mojoless but this one has pulled me through, so now i'm a happy bunny as they say. What are you up to these days? Did you build that Brit FV215B SPG on here Mence? I had a look around but couldn't find it.
Cheers Mence

Superb stuff, certainly far easier than building the AFV club valentine running gear! At the time I got this (Milton Keynes Show) I was thinking about getting the AFV Club Valentine as they had one on the same stand. Having read your comment above I'm rather pleased I went for the Archer now
Thanks for pulling up a stool and watching, cheers

The AFV club kit fought me all the way Gaz, it almost became a casualty of war! The tamiya one looks much easier without scrimping on detail so I may do that one as well some day Here's how it turned out after a protracted fight!
