Thanks everyone, I’ve really enjoyed the figure painting. I never really considered myself as creative or artistic, I’ve always been far too structured and logic/process driven. With the figures I feel that I’ve finally started doing something creative, strange I know.
Marco, I’m not sure I would go that far! I hope I’m improving with the more I do. Working at a small scale has meant learning much better brush control, getting the paint consistency right to flow with the tiniest of brush strokes without flooding the model and patience.
There is a key downside, namely the reliance on glasses. Previously I could work without any correction or enlargement, that is now not possible and I’ve found it has transferred over to all of my modelling.
Another limiting factor is that I’m colourblind! I can see the colours and shades, but my brain just doesn’t identify them. So everything in the green spectrum, from blue green through to red brown my brain says “green”, likewise with the blue and red spectrum. I sort of paint by numbers... if I can identify the base colour I can generally work out the correct tones to use based on colour charts and over time I have developed an understanding of what goes with what. My paint racks are ordered alphabetically, rather than by colour, as this is how my brain seems to work. Funny really, that I can produce anything that doesn’t look completely wrong.

Man, you're a genius. I don't know if I could do something like that.
