This is where you really notice the difference between Tamiya and its cheap Chinese copy...

Nice couple of builds. But I reckon now the most fun part will come: the balls and chains. I know I loved doing them (not) on a Merkava IV years ago

No anti-skid surface, either. Exactly. These MK I's are the only version that you can build, leaving off both the texture and the ball and chain armour. The texture is in fact part of the camouflage and not anti-slip. This reduces the shine on any flat areas to zero. On other armoured vehicles you can always see something that reflects the sunlight, you will never see that on any Merkava tanks from the MkII onwards. This was also considered by the British, French, and German armies. But Europe being a possible NBC environment, they decided against it, the texture would be impossible to decontaminate.

That is an interesting fact indeed' The anti-slip myth is dispelled. I bet that coating would have been difficult to clean if it got contaminated. Kind of like the myth that all USAAC and USN WW2 birds were "interior green" on the inside. ๐๐

Cool builds bwilt. I wonder if Tamiya know about the knock off one, because it most definitely looks like a knock off to me.
Just by the way, I left the MGs off and painted separately, it was easier that way.
