Cheers chaps . well the Tamiya zimmerit is now all in place, except for the barrel shroud. That part just wouldn't work, I tried to fit this as one piece as per the instructions and it is way off.... I then chopped it up and tried again.... still no go. So I have decided to add this later using putty. Would I recommend the Tamiya sticker zim, to be honest no. This stuff is very time consuming, difficult to cut out, not totally correct in fit, and worst of all extremely difficult to show any damage. I can see some after work coming on the front hull and around the curved front of the turret, the rest will be seen after some primer. Next time I'll definitely go old school, putty and a blade are for me the faster and better way to show zimmerit. I have done many a zimmerited vehicle, and one this size would take about 4 hours, not 10 which this has taken till now.

I found the ATAK zimm was excellent but i don`t know how available it is over here.........not tried the Tam and i don`t think i will now , i`1m not a fan of the etch versions either ........only tried the putty method once and it was mediocre i `spose .........think i`ll just build zimmless vehicles instead Despite ya fight ya done a grand job fella

Paul, you did a great job working with that Zimmerit and sorry it gave you trouble. I have used the Eduard PE Zimmerit before and have had good luck with that, although it can get a little gnarly if you have a curvy tank.
Best wishes,
Ian

Boots, I love adding this stuff as it a challenge, but as said I do prefer the old school putty and blade Ian R, cheers ole chap . Ian H, many thanks too sire . Right, this evening I added the zimm to the gun shroud, it's a tad rough and I might remake it, dunno yet. Also I added some Eduard PE to the rear plate, I just happened to have this PE set also, which is good as the Tamiya stickers don't include all the needed zimm. I also managed to get some damage on a few areas of the stickered zimm, don't want too much just a little. I know what you're all thinking, he's fianlly lost it . Why have I added a Tiger I style exhaust? Because the first of these vehicles actually had them . Whilst looking through my references to find a camo scheme which I liked, I bumped into this picture . I have never noticed this before, even though I have been through this book a few times . I reckon this will give the Tiger II a nice twist, and more than likely wee wee some judges off at the shows too .

That's really cool. The pic really makes you appreciate the sheer size of a Tiger II hull.

Zimm looks great even with the issues as does the damage and tigger 1 exhausts, a nice touch. As you know I found the 1/48th zimm on the elefant quite acceptable, perhaps it just doesn't scale up too well in 1/35th?
